Practice
Robin du Preez’s practice has always involved criminal cases both large and small. Before he came to the Bar, he had spent two years working at two leading Criminal Legal Aid solicitors’ firms.
 
For the first 15 years of practice, he was solely a defence advocate. Since then he has undertaken a mixture of both defence and prosecution work. He is a Grade 2 Advocate for the Crown Prosecution Service.
 
He has appeared in all courts except the House of Lords, including the Privy Council for pro bono appeals against the death penalty. Throughout a long career he has defended in every type of criminal offence. He has been junior Counsel in murder trials.
 
Amongst the cases in which he has appeared are the following:
 
He was instructed in the Broadwater Farm trial (2nd tier). Also in the largest ecstasy importation at the time, tried at the Central Criminal Court. As counsel experienced in drug offences, he has defended in massive importation cases, both class A and B in Kent, Sussex and Isleworth . He was junior Council in R. v. Hutchinson in 1997, a murder trial resulting in six life sentences and an authority for mental health disposal. He was leading junior counsel in two of the first human trafficking cases. These lengthy trials each involved more than 10 defendants. 
 
In Liverpool Crown Court, defending in a large counterfeit tobacco and cigarette importation. In Preston Crown Court, a trial involving violent robberies whose victims were deliberately picked because they were wealthy and in their houses at the time.
 
He is an expert in defence cases of a sexual nature, these include numerous instances of rape, child sex abuse and child cruelty.
 
He will supply the detailed references of these and other cases on demand.
 
He took a 12-month sabbatical in 2006 to 2007.
 
In the past 12 months, his cases have involved serious knife crime, glassing, firearms and internet fraud.
 
He now also prosecutes in Essex and Suffolk.
