Helen Garlick, a barrister for more than 30 years, has had a distinguished career in public service, notably serving for the past five years as an Assistant Director of the UK Serious Fraud Office (SFO) where she was the first Head of its Overseas Corruption Unit. While at the SFO, Helen headed the landmark investigation of BAE Systems where her skillful handling of highly sensitive law enforcement and diplomatic relationships across several jurisdictions garnered praise.
Helen was interviewed for a PBS Frontline documentary, “Black Money” on the subject of corporate corruption in the UK. During her tenure at the SFO, Helen served as both the Head of Policy and of the Mutual Legal Assistance Unit. Among her many accomplishments, she handled complex cases involving the Nigerian government’s investigations of grand scale theft by its former Head of State, General Sani Abacha and the Italian authorities’ investigation into allegations of fraud by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Additionally, she was appointed as a Judicial Expert to advise Slovenia and Turkey on their EU candidacy.
