David Ormerod was appointed Law Commissioner for Criminal Law and Evidence on the 1st September 2010. Before this he was a practising member of 18 Red Lion Court where he has been instructed for the defence and for the Serious Fraud Office and the Revenue and Customs Prosecution Office in serious fraud cases.
Publications He is Professor of Criminal Justice at Queen Mary, University of London. He is the author of numerous journal articles and book chapters, and several hundred case commentaries. His most recent publications include:

He is a member of the Education Committee of the Criminal Bar Association. He sits on the Executive Council of JUSTICE. He is a member of the Criminal Justice Council.
Lectures He lectures regularly to the profession and to various prosecution agencies – CPS, SFO, RCPO. Recent lectures included:

- "Developments in Fraud" lecture to Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office Manchester Sept 30th 2009.
- "Recent Developments in Crime" lecture to Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate in London on 2nd October 2009.
In addition, he lectures regularly for the Judicial Studies Board on Criminal Law, Serious Sexual Offences and the Law of Evidence. He recently assisted the JSB in updating the Judicial Studies Board Specimen Directions. He has acted as a consultant to the Law Commission, Home Office and the Commonwealth Secretariat.
