Practice
Jamie Sawyer undertakes a wide range of criminal law work, appearing in Crown Courts across the country, and particularly in London, Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Reading.

He has acted for the Defence or the Crown in several serious cases. His experience includes dealing with offences against the person (including offences under sections 18 and 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act), sexual offences, high value theft and fraud offences, burglary and robbery. He has also been instructed as junior counsel in a number of notable  cases, including acting as disclosure counsel in the case of Steve Wright in 2008 (involving the murder of five prostitutes in the Ipswich area). He is a Grade 3 Advocate for the Crown Prosecution Service.

He also regularly prosecutes and defends benefit fraud work, in both the Crown Court and magistrates’ courts.

He has appeared in the Court of Appeal on a number of occasions, both representing the Crown at substantive hearings and successfully appealing a number of sentences on behalf of the Defence.

Notable cases

R v Finch & Flynn (2006), instructed on behalf of the Defence, led by Stephen Rose, large-running child neglect case involving a rare medical condition (“psycho-social short stature syndrome”) suffered by the complainant;

R v Bull (2007), instructed by the Crown, led by Christopher Paxton, involved a number of sexual offences committed by an osteopath upon his patients

R v Steve Wright (2008), instructed by Crown, disclosure counsel, involved murder of five prostitutes in Ipswich area

R v M & G (2008), instructed by Crown, disclosure counsel, ongoing case of arson with intent to endanger life and murder

R v B, instructed by Crown, ongoing serious child abuse case
